), a drug delivery company with a commercial presence in Europe, reported today that revenue increased 74 percent for the third quarter ended September 30, 2001, to $6,316,000 from $3,626,000 for the third quarter of the prior year.

Although Bentley doubled its research and development expenses this quarter, income from operations and pre-tax income for the quarter rose to $120,000 and $96,000, respectively. Bentley trimmed its net loss for the quarter to $149,000, or 1 cent per basic and diluted common share on 14,308,000 weighted average common shares outstanding, compared with a net loss of $419,000, or 3 cents per basic and diluted common share on 13,662,000 weighted average common shares outstanding, for the same quarter of 2000.

Revenues for the nine months ended September 30, 2001 increased 37 percent to $18,255,000 from $13,305,000 in the same nine-month period of the prior year. Net income for the nine months ended September 30, 2001, which included the gain on sale of drug licenses during 2001, improved to $1,924,000, or 14 cents per basic common share on 14,064,000 weighted average common shares outstanding (12 cents per diluted common share on 15,594,000 weighted average common shares outstanding), compared to a net loss of $560,000, or 4 cents per basic and diluted common share on 12,672,000 weighted average common shares outstanding, in the comparable nine-month period of the prior year.
