Bentley Systems Bentley Systems, Incorporated, provides software for the "Design, construction and operation of the world's infrastructure". The company’s software serves the building, plant, civil, and geospatial vertical markets in the areas of architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) , Incorporated today announced that it is providing assistance to firms in the design, construction, facility management, and real property industries seeking to do business with the U.S. General Services Administration The General Services Administration (GSA) was established by section 101 of the Federal Property and Administrative Services Act of 1949 (40 U.S.C.A. § 751). The GSA sets policy for and manages government property and records.  (GSA (1) (Global mobile Suppliers Association, Sawbridgeworth, U.K., www.gsacom.com) A membership organization of suppliers of GSM products and services. Its goal is to promote GSM as the worldwide mobile communications standard. See GSM Association and GSM. ). The GSA has asked firms to document by March 15 their use of building information modeling (BIM) technology based on Industry Foundation Classes (IFC (Internet Foundation Classes) A class library from Netscape that provides an application framework and graphical user interface (GUI) routines for Java programmers. IFC was later made part of the Java Foundation Classes (JFC). See JFC, AFC and AWT. See also ICF. ) data exchange standards, and Bentley is helping them respond.

Firms responding to the GSA request for information can find templates, suggested language, and other useful material on IFC-based BIM at www.bentley.com/gsa. Bentley will also provide individual consultation to help firms meet the request. Firms seeking such aid should inquire by email to bim@bentley.com or contact their account manager.

Additionally, Bentley offers firms its portfolio of integrated, interoperable BIM solutions that are IFC certified. GSA has indicated that, beginning in July, the delivery of IFC-based BIM will be required for the preliminary design phase of all new fiscal year 2006 projects. Like the GSA, Bentley advocates BIM to cut the amount of time and money wasted in construction projects, increase quality of work, and improve project profitability and competitiveness.

Bentley building solutions were certified in July 2004 for their support of IFC 2x standards. Currently, Bentley building solutions are undergoing final certification for support of IFC 2x2. Certification is awarded by the International Alliance for Interoperability International Alliance for Interoperability is a not-for-profit organization that supports the development of the IFC specification and the deployment of buildingSMART.  (IAI IAI Infection And Immunity (journal)
