Under terms of the contract, multiple TapTone II inspection systems, which are designed to test the seal integrity of filled bottles and other containers, will be installed on a number of high speed bottling lines in Coors' facilities throughout the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. . Installation will begin immediately and the project is expected to be completed over the next several months.

The order is one of the largest ever received by the division which accounted for roughly half of Benthos' consolidated fiscal 1996 sales of $11.7 million.

Coors joins a host of other major brewers now using the TapTone(R) technology, including Miller, Molson, Heineken, and Kronenbourg.

In making today's announcement, John L. Coughlin, president and chief executive officer of Benthos said: "The Coors order represents a significant step forward for our unique TapTone(R) systems, for our Container Inspection division, as well as for Benthos, Inc. Not only will it have an important impact on our operating results, but by fortifying the systems' reputation for reliability and service, it should open up substantial new growth opportunities for our patented process."

The TapTone II system, which has proven to be highly effective in identifying minute sealing defects in bottles and other containers before they reach consumers, uses acoustic technology to determine inadequate relative vacuum or pressure levels of filled bottles running on high speed production lines, and automatically removes the defective units.

Benthos, Inc., the parent company, is also a leading supplier of oceanographic products which likewise incorporate acoustic technology for undersea applications. The company is ISO (1) See ISO speed.
