Benefon to Incorporate Tegic Communications' T9 Text Input Into Its Cellular Handsets.


SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 23, 1998--Tegic Communications today announced Benefon has licensed T9(tm) text input. Initially, Benefon plans to incorporate English, Finnish and other European language versions of T9 text input into a new GSM cellular handset to be announced To be announced (TBA)

Benefon selected T9 text input technology because it enables quick, easy and intuitive text input. Its powerful features allow individuals to compose messages, enter information into their phones, and take advantage of an array of new communications services, such as mobile-originated messaging.

Currently, T9 is available in more than ten languages including character-based versions of Chinese (Simplified, Traditional, Pinyin and BoPoMoFo), Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Korean (Hangul), Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish. The company is also developing a Japanese version of T9 text input, which it expects to introduce by the end of 1998.

In addition to Benefon, Tegic Communications has licensed T9 technology to the following cellular phone manufacturers: Fujitsu, Maxon, Mitsubishi, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Texas Instruments See TI.
