Beneficial Expands Scholarship Program at University of South Florida.


TAMPA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 1996--Beneficial Corporation today announced it will double its four-year scholarship program at the University of South Florida

The scholarships join two USF scholarships established last year. The scholarship program will be named the Beneficial-Knight Scholarships in honor of Charles L. Knight, who died in March. Knight was a long-time member of the Boards of Directors of Harbour Island Harbour Island is an island and administrative district in the Bahamas. Previously, Beneficial offered four-year scholarships to two eligible minority students at USF. The expansion will add one minority scholarship and one based solely on academic achievement.

Also at the news conference, Beneficial outlined the expansion of two subsidiaries that will generate up to 825 jobs in the city; disclosed an intent to build an office building on Harbour Island; and announced the sale of Harbour Island Inc.'s highly successful Island Walk and Island Place apartment complexes on the Island.
