John "Jack" Krasula, chairman and CEO of Decision Consultants Inc. in Southfield, was honored as "Master Entrepreneur" at the 13th annual Michigan Entrepreneur of the Year awards gala sponsored by Ernst & Young. Other honorees included:

* Financial services -- Rufus "Bud" H. Reitzel CEO and founder, Asset Acceptance Corp., Warren.

* Manufacturing -- Sidney E. Taylor, chairman and CEO, S.E.T. Steel Inc., Detroit.

* Service -- Gary J. Gabel, president Great Lakes Strategies LLC, Birmingham.

* Technology Services -- Bhushan Kulkarni, president and CEO, GDI Infotech Inc.. Ann Arbor.

"E-Detroit: A New Century of Business," an hour-long documentary produced by Mort Crim Communications of Southfield for WDIV-TV in Detroit won a Michigan Emmy for a single topic program from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The documentary was sponsored by the Detroit Regional Chamber, General Motors Corp., Kmart Corp., Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan, WWJ Newsradio 950 and Pinnacle Aeropark of Wayne County.

W. Frank Fountain, senior vice president for government affairs at DaimlerChrysler Corp. and Detroit Regional Chamber vice chairman; Robert Casalou. president and CEO of Providence Hospital & Medical Centers and Cardinal Adam J. Malda of the Archdiocese of Detroit will be honored for their exemplary leadership and commitment to the community at the Arab-American and Chaldean Council's annual Civic and Humanitarian Awards Banquet Sept. 15 at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center.

At its annual meeting, United Way Community Services presented its Max M. Fisher Community Service Award to Eugene A. Miller, chairman, president and CEO of Comerica Inc. and Comerica Bank. And its Executive of the Year Award to Barbara Nurenberg, president and CEO of Jewish Vocational Service. Oakwood Healthcare System in Dearborn received the Richard F. Huegll Honorable Distinction Award for its domestic violence initiative.

Kim Schroeder, founder of Archive Impact Inc. in Detroit received the Emerging Corporate Leader Award from Wayne State University. The award is presented to a WSU alumnus who is an entrepreneur and who shows great potential for future leadership in a chosen field. Archive Impact offers marketing, technology and indexing services for audio-visual collections.

Elias M. Guiterrez, publisher and editor of the newspapers Latino Press and De Mujer a Mujer and the Southwest Detroit Business Directory, received a certificate of merit in the 2001 Small Business Innovation Award program from the Small Business Association of Michigan.

BEI Associates Inc., a Detroit-based architectural and engineering firm, received the 2000 Gold Award from DaimlerChrysler Corp. The award recognizes suppliers for outstanding performance. BEI also won the award last year and remains the only A/E firm in the country ever to have achieved this distinction.

Madison Heights-based Peoples State Bank received the "Renaissance Award of Honor" from the International Association of Business Communicators for its 90th anniversary annual report honoring the bank's long-time customers and the charities it supports. The winning design used muted tones to create nostalgic-looking photos with a scrapbook appearance.

Louis Hartman, PE, a principal of Southfield-based design and construction firm HarleyEllis, participated on the judging panel of R&D Magazine's 35th Annual Laboratory of the Year competition in conjunction with the Scientific Equipment and Furniture Association, Hartman leads HarleyEllis' laboratory design team.
