On Monday, April 10, 2000, at 6:30 p.m., some of Hollywood's brightest stars will gather at the Hollywood Palladium, located at 6215 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood, to support Project A.L.S., a charity devoted to raising awareness and funds for research for AS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) (ā'mīətrōf`ik, sklĭrō`sĭs) or motor neuron disease, , also known as Lou Gehrig's disease Lou Geh·rig's disease

The evening gala will be hosted by Ben Stiller ("There's Something About Mary") and Kristen Johnston ("3rd Rock From The Sun"); chaired by Brad Grey, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. , Basic Entertainment, and Andrew Jarecki, CEO and founder of AOL Moviefone; and presented by Saks Fifth Avenue Saks Fifth Avenue is a chain of upscale American department stores that is owned and operated by Saks Fifth Avenue Enterprises (SFAE), a subsidiary of Saks Incorporated. It competes in the elite luxury department store market with Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New . The evening will include a VIP reception, followed by dinner, a live auction, music and comedy by Dennis Miller.

A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the second annual David Niven Award. This award is presented to an individual or group of individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to finding effective treatments and a cure for ALS and/or to raising awareness about ALS.

Other celebrities who are participating include: Scott Wolf, Sharon Lawrence, Jane Krakowski, Steven Weber, William Baldwin, Gina Gershon, Marisa Tomei, Penelope Ann Miller and many others.

The evening gala will be the grand finale of the two-part Project A.L.S. fund-raiser. Earlier that day, Project A.L.S. will hold its Inaugural Celebrity Golf Classic at the prestigious Riviera Country Club The Riviera Country Club is a country club with a championship golf course. It is located in Pacific Palisades, California, within the city limits of Los Angeles, California. The country club opened in 1926, with George C. Thomas, Jr. as the course architect. , Pacific Palisades, Calif. Golfing for Project A.L.S will be Robert Wagner, William Devane, Ray Romano, Scott Wolf and many more.

Tournament winners will be announced at the evening's dinner gala.

Project A.L.S. is a not-for-profit initiative founded by Jenifer Estess, along with her family and friends. Jenifer is a theater and film producer who has been battling this disease since she was diagnosed in 1997 at the age of 35. The goal of Project A.L.S. is to raise awareness about the disease and to fast track A.L.S. research by directing significant funds toward the development of treatments and a cure.

In the past 18 months, Project A.L.S. has funded research that has moved us exponentially closer to effective therapies and ultimately, a cure for ALS. The Project A.L.S./Neural Stem Cell Replacement collaboration uniting scientists at Johns Hopkins, Harvard and Columbia Universities and University of California, San Francisco Coordinates:  , has shown real promise.
