Second Annual Campaign to Educate Americans on

the Importance of Planning for Retirement

The National Retirement Planning Retirement financial planning refers to a collection of systems, methods, and processes which, in their aggregate, support a family unit's (client's) desire to achieve a state of financial independence, such that the need to be gainfully employed is optional.  Coalition (NRPC NRPC Nashua Regional Planning Commission

), a group of prominent financial industry and advocacy organizations, today announced that Ben Stein Benjamin Jeremy Stein (born November 25, 1944) is an American writer and commentator, Emmy Award-winning actor, comedian, and game show host. He was also formerly a lawyer, law professor, and White House speechwriter. He is the son of noted economist and writer Herbert Stein.  will take over for Senator Bob Dole as the honorary chairperson of the NRPC, and will serve as its principal spokesperson for the second annual National Retirement Planning Week.

Scheduled for the week of November 17, 2003, National Retirement Planning Week is a broad-based awareness campaign designed to educate Americans on the importance of retirement planning and the steps they need to take to ensure their retirement income will meet their desired retirement lifestyles.

Stein, possibly the only person who has won awards for both television comedy and economics writing, is best known for his extensive television and motion picture appearances, his speechwriting work for Presidents Nixon and Ford, and his prolific writing of books, articles and commentary on a range of social, political and financial subjects. He steps into the position previously held by Senator Bob Dole, who served as honorary chairperson for the 2002-3 year.

"The NRPC made great strides last year by educating Americans on the need for and issues surrounding retirement planning," said Stein. "This year our goal is to take it a step further by providing specific guidance to help Americans overcome many of the challenges they will face not only in the retirement planning process, but also during their retirement years. The Coalition has identified a number of risks that may very well determine the quality of our retirement years, and plans to show in a readily understandable way how people can protect against these risks and ensure financial security."

National Retirement Planning Week 2003 is designed to build on the tremendous success of the inaugural effort by providing Americans with the information and resources they need to meet and exceed their retirement goals. Additional information about specific activities planned for National Retirement Planning Week will be posted at the NRPC's Web site -- www.RetireOnYourTerms.org -- in the coming weeks.
