Ben & Jerry's is bringing its "Caring Capitalism" concept to midtown Manhattan with the opening of a new PartnerShop(R)--its ninth in the U.S. and the third such venture to debut in the Big Apple. A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the Rockefeller Center Rockefeller Center, complex of buildings in central Manhattan, New York City, between 48th and 51st streets and Fifth Ave. and the Ave. of the Americas (Sixth Ave.). The project was sponsored by John D. Rockefeller, Jr.  Scoop Shop is scheduled for Friday, May 26th at 10 A.M at the Summer Garden Cafe at Rockefeller Plaza. Immediately after, follow the fun to the PartnerShop and experience the store's "first scoop" first-hand.

The folks at Common Ground are seasoned scoopers--the organization's Times Square PartnerShop has offered job training opportunities there since its doors opened in 1994. "Common Ground has done a wonderful job with the Times Square PartnerShop," says Jerry Greenfield. "It's great that they're taking it on the road to Rockefeller Center." Trainees in the six month program gain the skills necessary for competitive employment through a combination of paid on-the-job training, career development workshops and classes, mentoring and vocational counseling. Asiabar Harris, graduate of Common Ground's job training program at the Times Square Ben & Jerry's and now full-time Common Ground employee, describes his experience as being a critical period for self-transformation.
