Belt up! is Hatton plea.


RICKY HATTON Richard Hatton MBE (born October 6 1978, in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England), is a British boxer. He is seen by many as one of the greatest British fighters of all-time and is currently one of the top 10 pound for pound fighters in the world.  has taken a break from training for next month's world title fight to appeal for the return of a historic boxing belt.

The belt was awarded to a lightweight boxing champion more than 70 years ago and has been stolen from a property in Cheshire.

It dates back to 1934 and was awarded to Teddy Maguire after a tournament at Blackpool Tower Blackpool Tower is a tourist attraction in Blackpool, Lancashire (northern England) (grid reference SD306360). It was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris and rises to 158m (518' 9"). , with detectives believing thieves may try to sell it to unsuspecting fans.

And Manchester-based Hatton has urged boxing fans to help police track the belt down.

"It takes a lot of blood sweat and tears to win a belt," said Hatton, who is in Las Vegas Las Vegas (läs vā`gəs), city (1990 pop. 258,295), seat of Clark co., S Nev.; inc. 1911. It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States.  training for his welterweight title fight on December 8.

"I would be devastated if somebody was to steal one of my belts, and if anybody has any information as to the whereabouts of this belt I would ask them to contact their local police station."

The belt has a centrepiece featuring two boxers raising their gloves, which is surrounded by intricate metal work and chains. It was designed by Lancashire jeweller Eli Percival.

Police said it was stolen from Mr Maguire's son's house in Wilmslow on October 3.

A spokesman for the Cheshire Constabulary Cheshire Constabulary is the Home Office police force responsible for policing the English non-metropolitan county of Cheshire and the unitary authorities of Halton (including Runcorn, and Widnes) and Warrington.  said: "The belt holds great sentimental value. The owner is desperate to be reunited with it and is understood to be willing to offer a reward for its safe return."
