Belmont Research releases CrossGraphs customization option.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 25, 1996--

New programming option lets companies embed

practical data visualization See information visualization.  within decision support systems

Belmont Research, Inc. announces a new Customization Option for CrossGraphs, the company's advanced data visualization and graphical reporting software The following is a list of notable reporting software. Commercial software

  • Cognos BI
  • Combit List and Label
  • Crystal Reports

.

CrossGraphs shows important patterns and trends in multidimensional data by displaying many graphs, one graph per subset, on one or many pages. The new Customization Option lets software professionals extend CrossGraphs with graph types, procedures, and user interfaces that are tailored to meet the particular data retrieval and analyses needs of their companies.

"CrossGraphs can be used as a stand-alone program with minimal setup, and it can be embedded as a graph array engine within special-purpose analysis or decision support systems," explains Chan Russell, president of Belmont Research. "Its power and flexibility make CrossGraphs visualization technology attractive to systems integrators, complementary software and data vendors, and companies developing sophisticated analysis systems for internal use."

Custom Graphs and User Interfaces

Custom graphs enable people to visualize data in the most intuitive way, using display techniques designed specifically for their company or industry. Custom user interfaces can also be created to replace the CrossGraphs main window with a different main window, subwindows, and supporting callback methods. These customizations let people retrieve, visualize, and interact with corporate databases using natural, highly visual user interfaces, so they can make better decisions based on complex information.

It is one of five Centers at the United States Food and Drug Administration. , "We quickly extended CrossGraphs with sophisticated graph types of our own design to help medical reviewers find patterns in complex, clinical trials data. The CrossGraphs custom user interface feature lets us build specialized data visualization and review programs, tuned to the specific needs of our medical reviewers."

High Level of Integration via OLE

A high level of integration is possible with the Customization Option because CrossGraphs also operates as an OLE automation server See COM automation. . This allows CrossGraphs to be invoked from OLE client programs written in languages such as C, C++, or Microsoft Visual Basic. OLE automation makes it easy to combine CrossGraphs with complementary retrieval or analysis software to create powerful, integrated solutions.

"CrossGraphs' flexibility, power, and ease of use enable us to add advanced graphical analysis capabilities to our computer-assisted trial design software," says Art Reidel, chief executive officer and president of Pharsight Corporation, headquartered in Palo Alto, California “Palo Alto” redirects here. CG++ for Graphical Applications

CrossGraphs' Customization Option comes with Belmont's CG++, a high-productivity, cross-platform object-oriented programming language object-oriented programming language - object-oriented programming  and environment for creating highly graphical software. CG++ combines the power of C++ with simplified memory management and cross-platform graphics libraries, so companies can extend CrossGraphs easily with new graph types, user interfaces, database query interfaces, and computational algorithms. The CG++ programming environment includes an integrated project manager, input/output console, GUI builder, class browser, source code editor A text editor that is specialized for writing software. Large programs would be extremely difficult to write using a standard text editor. Source code editors provide cross references to all the elements within the program so that the programmer can quickly review where and how code is , and source-level debugger.

Platform Support

Used with CrossGraphs, the Customization Option runs on industry-leading platforms including personal computers with Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups A version of Windows 3.1 introduced in 1992 that added peer-to-peer networking. See Windows.
