Returns on average common equity were 20.42 percent and 22.35 percent for the three months ended March 31, 1997 and 1996, respectively.

Belmont Bancorp. declared a 17 cents per share cash dividend for the first quarter payable on March 28, 1997, to shareholders of record as of March 17, 1997. This cash dividend represents a 30.77 percent increase from 13 cents per share paid for the first quarter of 1996.
