BELLWAY showed its confidence in the property market yesterday by launching a pounds 40m fundraising drive to finance new sites in the south.

The Newcastle-based builder said it had already been successful in securing contracts for land at prices it hopes will deliver attractive margins. It has made its move at a time when many of its traditional competitors have either exited the market or are operating at a reduced level.
