Dixon was also drafted by the Atlanta Braves on June 7th, 2007 as an outfielder and spent the football offseason in the Braves  will sign a contract to play professional baseball this summer but return to Eugene about a week before the start of practices in August to be with the Ducks for his final season of football.

`Take a football with you and stay healthy,' Bellotti said of his advice for Dixon, drafted in the fifth round by the Atlanta Braves The Atlanta Braves are a professional baseball team based in Atlanta, Georgia. The Braves are a member of the Eastern Division of Major League Baseball's National League. From to the present, the Braves have played in Turner Field.  on Thursday.

Bellotti said the football staff was aware Dixon was likely to be selected, though it was `a little higher than we all thought it might be. That's a testament to what an exceptional athlete Dennis is.'

Dixon hasn't played organized baseball since the summer after his senior year of high school. He was a 20th-round selection in the draft that spring by the Cincinnati Reds but chose to play football instead of signing. He considered playing for a semi-pro team two summers ago and did work out for the Braves this winter.

He can play professional baseball and still be eligible for college football, though he won't be on a UO scholarship.

Attempts to reach Dixon on Friday were unsuccessful, but both Bellotti and the Braves are assuming he will sign. Bellotti said his understanding of the plan for Dixon would be to have him be at the Braves training complex in Florida in about 10 days and work out there for up to two weeks, and then join one of Atlanta's minor-league teams Noun 1. minor-league team - a team that plays in a minor league

Bellotti said Dixon's absence from voluntary summer workouts will `no question, hurt the chemistry you want' between a quarterback and receivers.

`The biggest area Dennis needs to improve on is decision-making decision-making,

Bellotti has had two other players combine pro baseball with college football, though linebacker Matt Smith was essentially done as a pitcher due to an arm injury by the time he joined the Ducks and Josh JOSH Joshua

`They weren't our starting quarterback,' Bellotti said. `It is a great opportunity for our other four quarterbacks, because you can never get enough snaps for five quarterbacks,' even in summer drills.

Bellotti also said `it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for Dennis. I'm happy for him.'
