Bellcore board of directors appoints Heilmeier as chairman and CEO; Ahuja, president and chief operating officer.


MORRISTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 5, 1996--The board of directors for Bellcore (Bell Communications Research) announced today the appointments of Dr. George H. Heilmeier Dr. George Harry Heilmeier (May 22, 1936 - ) is a notable American engineer and businessman, perhaps best known for his pioneering contributions to liquid crystal displays.  as chairman and chief executive officer and Sanjiv Ahuja as president and chief operating officer Chief Operating Officer (COO)

The officer of a firm responsible for day-to-day management, usually the president or an executive vice-president.
 for the company.

Both appointments are effective Jan. 1, 1997. Heilmeier has served as president and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Bellcore since joining the company from Texas Instruments in 1991. Ahuja joined Bellcore in 1994 as corporate vice president and president - Software Systems Group. He was formerly an executive with IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  Corp.

Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC SAIC - http://saic.com. ) announced on Nov. 21 of this year that it has agreed to purchase Bellcore, a leading provider of communications software, engineering and consulting services, from the Regional Bell Operating Companies. Following that transaction, which is expected to be finalized in late 1997 after Bellcore's owners obtain the requisite regulatory approvals, SAIC has stated that Bellcore will be operated as a wholly owned subsidiary Wholly Owned Subsidiary

A subsidiary whose parent company owns 100% of its common stock.
