Bellcore Launches New Business Unit to be Led by Jerry T. Roberto.MORRISTOWN, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 3, 1997--Jerry Roberto, of Lebanon, NJ, has been selected to lead a new Bellcore strategic business unit, Operations Support Systems Operations Support Systems (also called Operational Support Systems or OSS) are computer systems used by telecommunications service providers. As Corporate Vice President and Group President of Operations Systems, Roberto (53) will be responsible for Bellcore's complete line of Operations' Support Systems, the large computer systems used by most of the nation's local telecommunications service providers to manage their systems and networks. Previously, Roberto had served as Bellcore's vice president and general manger for Network Management and Broadband Systems. Roberto began his career with Bell Laboratories in 1965, where he worked on developing software for electronic switching systems. After a tour of duty in the U.S. Army, he worked as a supervisor at Bell Labs and held increasingly responsible positions at Bell Labs and AT&T. In 1979, he was promoted to department head at Bell Labs and led the research team responsible for development of the FACS FACS Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. FACS abbr.
