MORRISTOWN, N.J./PARIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 6, 1996--Bellcore technology will make it possible for attendees of the Fifth Annual World Wide Web Conference (WWW WWW or W3: see World Wide Web.

Sponsors of the WWW5 Conference contracted Bellcore to provide live "Webcasting" of conference events using components of its Adapt/X(TM) suite of products and services. Adapt/X solutions use Bellcore software and consulting to give businesses an adaptive and secure way to maximize the power of the World Wide Web.

During this week's meeting, attendees can walk up to a kiosk at the conference center to view clips of featured speakers, obtain event highlights or access the WWW5 home page. This is the first use of this technology for Web-based Intranet (Local Area Network) multimedia broadcasting. The next application will be for live event broadcasting directly over the Internet.

Adapt/X products that make this virtual conference possible include RAVE, a real-time audio/video environment and IBrowse, a video indexing feature of RAVE. IBrowse, a component of RAVE, allows easy indexing of, and access to, video information. Conference attendees can go directly to portions of stored speeches in which they are interested - eliminating the need to view the speech in its entirety and improving Web-based audio-video response time.
