Founded in 1851, it is the oldest secondary school in California. The school is a Roman Catholic school in the tradition of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. today announced that its Speech and Debate Team has won the California State Championship for the second consecutive year. Four students won individual state titles: Robert Bergin for Humorous Interpretation Humorous Interpretation (often shortened to "Humorous Interp", "HI", or simply Humorous) is an event in National Forensic League (and NFL-related) high school forensics competitions. The team competes in some 25 tournaments from October to June each year. Bellarmine has won eight state team championships since 1992. The team also won the National Championship in 1994. Eleven Bellarmine speakers have won individual national championships, and Bellarmine has produced 62 individual state champions.
