MANCHESTER City striker Craig Bellamy revealed his match-winning performance against FC Copenhagen tonight came despite the tragic loss of his cousin.

Wales captain Bellamy's brace propelled City into the last 16 of the Uefa Cup at Eastlands and a meeting with another Danish side - Aalborg.

Former Liverpool and Blackburn striker Bellamy got both goals in the space of seven second half minutes to dismantle Copenhagen but revealed on five afterwards he has been hit hard by the death of a family member.

"I lost my cousin, one of my closest friends, yesterday morning," said Bellamy, who joined the Eastlands outfit for pounds 15m in January.

"Today was a hard day for me, for my family and his family.

"I'll miss him dearly and I'd like to dedicate this game to him and the goals as well."

On last night's match, Bellamy said: "We got the job done.

"It was difficult at times because with the away goals (rule) you don't want to push too many forward.

"In the second half we asserted ourselves more and got the goals. Myself, Shaun (Wright-Phillips) and Robbie (Robinho) are attacking players and I think it paid dividends.

"They had to come out more in the second half and it opened up."
