BellSouth and Hypercom Network Systems to co-market branch networking solutions.PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 1996--BellSouth Telecommunications Inc. and Hypercom Network Systems, a leading provider of legacy/LAN integration solutions in large branch networks, Monday announced that they have entered into a co-marketing agreement. Under the Network Complementary Applications Program (NCAP NCAP New Car Assessment Program NCAP Northwest Coalition for Alternatives to Pesticides NCAP Network Capable Application Processor (from IEEE standard 1451. ) agreement, BellSouth account teams will identify customers who can simultaneously benefit from BellSouth networks services and Hypercom equipment. Hypercom Network Systems' Integrated Enterprise Network(TM) (IEN IEN - Internet Experiment Note ) family of products is used worldwide to minimize the overall costs associated with branch networking while optimizing network performance. BellSouth sales teams will work with Hypercom to develop total networking solutions for customers, particularly where mainframe or legacy data such as SNA (Systems Network Architecture) IBM's mainframe network standards introduced in 1974. Originally a centralized architecture with a host computer controlling many terminals, enhancements, such as APPN and APPC (LU 6. , BSC (Binary Synchronous Communications) See bisync. and asynchronous protocols co-exist with LAN (Local Area Network) A communications network that serves users within a confined geographical area. The "clients" are the user's workstations typically running Windows, although Mac and Linux clients are also used. or client/server systems. Hypercom may provide customers with FRADs, hybrid routers and other wide area networking functionality used in multiprotocol networks based on frame relay, ATM, ISDN ISDN in full Integrated Services Digital Network Digital telecommunications network that operates over standard copper telephone wires or other media. and other emerging technologies. Hypercom's IEN combines eight critical networking components -- FRAD (Frame Relay Access Device or Frame Relay Assembler Disassembler) A communications device that formats outgoing data into the format required by a frame relay network. It strips the data back out at the other end. , router, Hub/MAU, protocol converter, CSU/DSU See DSU/CSU. All IEN products are easily managed by its Transparent Network Management System (XNMS) or from an SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) A widely used network monitoring and control protocol. Data are passed from SNMP agents, which are hardware and/or software processes reporting activity in each network device (hub, router, bridge, etc. manager. Partnership Significance "By working with Hypercom, we'll be able to provide customers with comprehensive remote legacy/LAN connectivity solutions that meet current and evolving needs in branch offices," said Larry Carter, vice president of marketing for BellSouth Business Systems. "BellSouth is an aggressive carrier in advancing frame relay-based solutions," said Chuck Hellquist, vice president of sales for Hypercom Network Systems. "Joint marketing agreements like this one between BellSouth and Hypercom help customers to receive high quality network solutions. Not only will a smooth and cost-effective migration to frame relay be provided, but so will the flexibility to support future carrier service offerings without hardware replacement."
