National Cyber Security Alliance Launches Stay Safe Online Campaign

BellSouth today announced its participation in the Stay Safe Online Campaign launched in Washington, DC last week by the National Cyber Security Alliance.

The Alliance was formed by a group of federal government organizations and leading private sector companies to teach users how to minimize computer security risks. The campaign is part of the presidential focus on homeland defense and plays a crucial role in protecting the nation's Internet infrastructure.

"BellSouth is proud to be a sponsor of the Stay Safe Online Campaign," said Bob Wright, BellSouth's director of Information Security Strategy. "All companies and citizens must develop a new focus on security and, as a sponsor of the campaign, Bellsouth is contributing by educating customers on measures they can take to increase safety for home and small business computers."

The campaign includes a new Web site, http://www.staysafeonline.info, which highlights the need for computer security and encourages all users to protect both home and business systems. The site also provides consumers with safety checklists, protective measures and other tools to ensure maximum security, including a top 10 list of tips for home users:

2. Don't open email from unknown sources

3. Use hard-to-guess passwords

4. Protect your computer from Internet intruders -- use
