Tony Frost, opening in the absence of Westwood, perished in the fourth over after cover-driving his first ball for three and offdriving Ben Phillips handsomely to the fence.

But then Phillips got a delivery to bounce unexpectedly and Frost feathered the ball to the wicket-keeper.

Darren Maddy and Bell added 54 for the second wicket before a change of ends brought Phillips double success. His second ball back kept low to bowl Maddy, who had knuckled down hard for 17 in 18 overs, and his third found Jonathan Trott offering no shot to a straight one and he was adjuged lbw..
