(NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :BCE) President and Chief Executive Officer Alain Gourd today announced the appointment of Carol Stephenson as President and Chief Operating Officer Chief Operating Officer (COO) The officer of a firm responsible for day-to-day management, usually the president or an executive vice-president. of this new Business Services Division, effective Jan. 4, 1999. In this capacity, Ms. Stephenson will be responsible for delivering leading-edge satellite communications services to global corporate market customers in the Americas (Canada, the United States, Caribbean and Latin America). Ms. Stephenson returns to the BCE group following five years with Stentor Resource Centre (SRCI) Inc. where she has been President and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board. since July 1995. Ms. Stephenson's telecommunications career began in 1973 with Bell Canada where she has advanced through a variety of management positions, joining the executive ranks as a Bell vice-president in 1988. In addition to her extensive experience in the communications industry, Ms. Stephenson has a long track record as a leader on community, business and trade association boards, and in other advisory capacities. Currently, she is Chairman of the Board of the Information Technology Association of Canada Information Technology Association of Canada (or Association canadienne de la technolgie de l'information) is a lobby group representing members (companies) of Canada's information and communications technologies (ICT) industry.
