The deployment of IPStor enables Bell Microproducts to implement an IP-based, fully virtualized storage network with enterprise-class storage services including high availability Also called "RAS" (reliability, availability, serviceability) or "fault resilient," it refers to a multiprocessing system that can quickly recover from a failure. There may be a minute or two of downtime while one system switches over to another, but processing will continue. , just-in-time capacity management, snapshot, fast backup/restore, and replication technology across the U.S., from Alabama to California to facilitate remote disaster protection.

"An IP-based SAN is not only feasible, it already exists" said John McArthur John McArthur (November 17, 1826 – May 15, 1906) was a Union general during the American Civil War.

, vice president, Storage Research at IDC. "FalconStor's IPStor in Bell Microproducts' data center is evidence that IP-based storage can be done right now."

Bell Microproducts wanted to shift the hosting of its data center operations, including all application servers and data, from California to Alabama, with the intent to transition the San Jose San Jose, city, United States

location to become a passive site holding replicated data from its Montgomery location. This infrastructure change led to the opportunity to review their business continuity, storage capacity, and disaster prevention needs. After evaluating several alternatives, IPStor emerged as the clear winner that not only satisfies all of Bell Microproducts' technical requirements, but also delivers the lowest total cost of ownership with the greatest return on investment.

, virtualizing and provisioning storage over IP through IPStor would be enormous to our customers when we added it to our solutions portfolio in March," said Don Bell, CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of Bell Microproducts. "Utilizing IPStor to manage our Rorke Data division's Galaxy RAID products for internal use is certainly a bold statement of confidence, and is consistent with our commitment of quality: the products must first be good enough for Bell Microproducts in order to be good enough for us to recommend them to our customers."

"We're pleased that our relationship with Bell Microproducts has blossomed into a deeper partnership," said ReiJane Huai, president and CEO of FalconStor. "An IP-based SAN will help make it possible for Bell Microproducts to transition their data center from San Jose to Montgomery. IPStor will play a vital role in this transition and ultimately in Bell Microproducts' disaster-recovery/business resumption plan."

A joint Bell Microproducts, Rorke Data, and FalconStor team worked together to design the IP-based storage network, consisting of two IPStor servers working in high availability (failover) mode in Montgomery, AL, with both servers connecting to two Rorke Data Galaxy 55 RAID arrays in a mirrored configuration. IPStor servers are provisioning virtualized storage to multiple Windows NT (Windows New Technology) A 32-bit operating system from Microsoft for Intel x86 CPUs. In addition to the Montgomery primary site, a remote replication site was also established in San Jose, California San Jose (IPA: /ˌsænhoʊˈzeɪ/) is the third-largest city in California, and the tenth-largest in the United States. It is the county seat of Santa Clara County. , along with replication capabilities between the two sites connected via IP links on wide area networks. In the unlikely event of a total primary site failure - a highly unlikely scenario given the high-availability features of IPStor- the replicated site will act as the hot-spare site to ensure minimal down time.
