Bell Helicopter's V-22 Osprey Program to Deploy Manufacturing Planning, Work Instruction Management from CIMx and Intercim.

Business Editors & Technology Writers

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 3, 2002

Solution to be deployed step-by-step to maximize ROI (Return On Investment) The monetary benefits derived from having spent money on developing or revising a system. In the IT world, there are more ways to compute ROI than Carter has liver pills (and for those of you who never heard of that expression, it means a lot).

Faced with the task of implementing thousands of hours of engineering changes for the V-22 Osprey The V-22 Osprey is a joint service, multimission, military tiltrotor aircraft with both a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) and short takeoff and landing capability (STOL). , Bell Helicopter Bell Helicopter Textron is an American helicopter and tiltrotor manufacturer headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. A division of Textron, Bell manufactures military helicopter and tiltrotor products in the United States (primarily in and around Fort Worth as well as in Amarillo,  needed a vendor to provide critical work instruction creation and management capabilities. The CIMx/Intercim team recommended CIMx Apps(R) to accelerate the process of managing work instructions and related manufacturing data. The first phase of the system - to be deployed in a step-by-step process - will provide accurate full-color multi-media work instructions, as well as continued updating and support of existing Bell systems. Initial estimates show that the system will pay for itself in considerably less than two years. Additional value will be realized when the system is expanded to include shop floor control, electronic data capturing, process visibility, and reporting. These new capabilities will exceed Bell Helicopter's current needs and provide the foundation for improving manufacturing throughput and quality across Bell Helicopter.

The CIMx Apps implementation will provide seamless integration An addition of a new application, routine or device that works smoothly with the existing system. It implies that the new feature or program can be installed and used without problems. Contrast with "transparent," which implies that there is no discernible change after installation.  to multiple legacy systems and will store data in the CIMx Manufacturing Data Management (MDM (Modular Digital Multitrack) An audio recorder that mixes and records multiple tracks of digital audio. The two major MDM technologies are ADAT and DTRS. See ADAT and DTRS. )(TM) database, allowing Bell Helicopter manufacturing engineers The profession of manufacturing engineer is defined as a person having the education and experience to understand and control manufacturing systems such as processes and/or automation, including industrial processes and equipment used to produce goods.  to create instructions, and apply constraint information for tooling, components, and labor resources. These data will be shared with existing Bell Helicopter business systems.

"As V-22 modification requirements became available, Bell Helicopter realized that the existing legacy planning/work instruction environment would not be able to support the tight time schedule set by the V-22 program, and based on their expertise and their track record, I'm convinced that the CIMx/Intercim team can provide that capability" said Jon Grant, Director of Manufacturing Support for Bell Helicopter Textron. "This step-by-step roll-out will help us to exceed customer requirements, improve planning efficiency, reduce costs, capture ROI at each step, and make it easier to manufacture quality products."

"The capabilities of CIMx Apps will fulfill the immediate need required by Bell Helicopter for the V-22 program" said John Todd John Todd is the name of:
