Bell Atlantic Selects ADC's Soneplex System To Provide Fiber-Optic Delivery Services.

RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 18, 1996--The Network Services Division of ADC Telecommunications, Inc., today announced that it will provide its Soneplex(TM) intelligent DS1 service delivery system to Bell Atlantic Network Services, Inc., under a multiyear contract. The Soneplex system will enable Bell Atlantic's telephone companies to economically increase their fiber-optic-based T1 loop facilities to meet the growing demand for circuits from business and personal communications services (PCS) customers.

ADC's Soneplex system is an intelligent, flexible, cost-effective DS1 platform that simultaneously supports fiber and copper facilities from the same chassis. A common X.25-based network management interface allows centralized control and supervision of DS1 circuits from Bell Atlantic's network operations centers, ensuring superior service quality.

Bell Atlantic chose the Soneplex system because of its ability to provide the needed network, subscriber, and network monitoring and analysis (NMA) interfaces in a cost-effective package. The OSMINE-qualified system provides additional value to Bell Atlantic because of the built-in performance monitoring and remote maintenance and provisioning features.

The Soneplex system also permits economical DS1 service delivery by reducing maintenance and troubleshooting activities. With the system's advanced performance monitoring, Bell Atlantic often can quickly identify and solve problems without dispatching repair technicians to a customer's premises.
