High-Speed, Flexible Multi-Radio Broadband Mesh Network Powers IRL Races in the US

KANATA, Ontario -- With cars accelerating from zero to 100 in less than three seconds, employees of the Indy Racing League[TM] (IRL) appreciate the need for speed and are deploying a high-performance wireless mesh network from BelAir Networks to support the communications requirements of race staff at their events.

In 2008, the IRL-sanctioned IndyCar Series will host sixteen races across the U.S. and in Japan, featuring the fastest closed-course racing cars in the world. BelAir Networks powerful broadband mesh network equipment will support the real-time transmission of race-related data and voice communications at the fifteen U.S. IndyCar Series races, plus an additional 16 events that comprise the Firestone Indy Lights Series, the IRL's driver development series.

Each course ranges in size and shape from standard ovals to complex street courses that weave between buildings and city parks -- adding excitement and complexity to each event. BelAir Networks wireless nodes are being deployed at the races in various configurations to meet the challenges of the different terrains. The first IndyCar Series race of the 2008 season took place at the Homestead Miami Speedway on March 29th and the final race will take place on September 7th at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois.
