Summer movies are here, and the outdoor entertainment season isn't far behind.

The accepted wisdom is that movies are recession-proof, but you know what else is recession-proof? Word of mouth. So the movies still have to be good.

It opened Thursday, but this summer has some bets that are almost as sure, including a 3-D Pixar film and the next Harry Potter movie.

Something that is not recession proof is upscale dining, but one local restaurant and bar has just gained a mention in a new book that just came out. Bel Ami Restaurant & Lounge was mentioned in Food & Wine 2009 as one of the top 100 bars in the country.

You know national attention about local things can reflect little about what's going on What's Going On is a record by American soul singer Marvin Gaye. Released on May 21, 1971 (see 1971 in music), What's Going On reflected the beginning of a new trend in soul music.  in a community, but no one around here can dispute that when you get a specialty drink at Bel Ami, it's tasty. (Unless you don't like delicious cocktails.)

The news release for the book says Bel Ami has "an impressive collection of spirits, particularly American whiskey whiskey [from the Gaelic for "water of life"], spirituous liquor distilled from a fermented mash of grains, usually rye, barley, oats, wheat, or corn. Inferior whiskeys are made from potatoes, beets, and other roots. , plus (cocktail) concoctions like East of Eden East of Eden is a novel by Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck, published in September 1952.

The bar is open until 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, later if crowds warrant. It's guaranteed to be open until midnight Friday and Saturday. Bel Ami cut its hours and menu in March.

This weekend is the "soft opening" for Keystone Cafe's new musical offerings. Check out its new dinner menu and hear some music starting at 7 p.m. today and Saturday.
