BEIRUT: The Lebanese government intends to remove the subsidies on flour as of November 15 after the prices of wheat in international markets started to drop, Economy and Trade Minister Mohammed Safadi said on Friday. The previous government subsidized flour after prices of wheat in the international market rose drastically. The minister stressed that the prices of Arabic bread would remain at LL1,500 for each 1,300 grams. The syndicates of bakeries and flour mills voiced their support for Sadafi's move. The subsidy subsidy, financial assistance granted by a government or philanthropic foundation to a person or association for the purpose of promoting an enterprise considered beneficial to the public welfare.  cost the Treasury nearly LL350,000 per ton of wheat. "We are keen to preserve food security and maintain a high quality of bread," the minister said. - The Daily Star
