Being Jane Launches Explosive Online Community; www.beingjane.com Aims to Redefine Feminism, One Perception at a Time.

MURRIETA, Calif. -- Being Jane Inc. announces the launch of www.beingjane.com, an online community dedicated to shattering the preconceived notions of women in society and the evolving roles that women are forced to play.

Founded by Kelly Smith, Being Jane provides access to advice, mentoring, support and a compendium of women-related information that leverage the experiences of women who have achieved non-traditionally female goals by actualizing their authentic beliefs and desires. In beta testing since summer, beingjane.com has served more than 60,000 unique visitors from 130 countries already, showing that there is a clear need for a positive forum. Future additions to the site will include professional coaching and peer mentoring.

"Being Jane is committed to redefining the idea of feminism to symbolize women coming together to raise the bar, so they may lead fulfilling lives with self-assurance and passion," Smith said. "In effect, Being Jane is creating a network of women helping women to realize the opportunity for all women to be whomever and whatever they want to be: from CEO to homemaker, from motorcyclist to philanthropist, from fighter pilot to missionary. The women of Being Jane embrace the vitality of being female, and champion their connections to future generations."

Being Jane Aims to Redefine Feminism

The term "feminism" has been used as a mantra for thousands of women's groups. More often than not, the discourse has an angry tone targeted at men -- an attitude Being Jane denounces.

"We believe the strength of women comes from within. We can achieve more by working together in a positive, authentic environment that proudly takes the high road of achievement and courage," Smith said. "Being Jane celebrates the empowerment of women of all shapes, colors, ages, talents and cultures, as we bridge the gap between the pioneers of freedom and those in future generations who will know no gender bias gender bias n. unequal treatment in employment opportunity (such as promotion, pay, benefits and privileges), and expectations due to attitudes based on the sex of an employee or group of employees. Gender bias can be a legitimate basis for a lawsuit under anti-discrimination statutes.."

The core of feminism is the belief that men and women should be equal politically, economically and socially. The Women's Liberation Movement exploded in the late 1960s, complete with rallies, marches and events all intended to demonstrate the need for equality that women so richly deserved. It was an appropriate avenue at the time, but it has been nearly 20 years since the movement has produced any substantive, positive impact on women's lives, according to Smith.

"Although we commend leaders such as Dr. Condoleezza Rice (U.S. Secretary of State nominee), all one needs do is look at the percentage of women in political office today to realize that women have a long way to go," Smith explained.

According to the Center for Women in Politics at Rutgers University, although women made a moderate gain of five seats in the United States Congress, women hold only 13.6 percent of the 535 seats in the 108th U.S. Congress, 25.7 percent of statewide elective executive offices across the country and 22.5 percent of state legislative seats.

"When you consider that women make up more than 50 percent of the adult population," Smith said, "it becomes clear that our political system doesn't reflect accurately the demographics -- and therefore the needs -- of American women today."
