Beijing to increase use of natural gas.

At the 2007' China Beijing International Energy Saving and Environmental Protection Conference held on June 11th, a senior official from Beijing Municipal Government said that Beijing plans to increase the consumption of natural gas 5.0 billion [m.sup.3] per year from 3.8 billion [m.sup.3] in 2006, for replacing coal boilers below 20 tons of steam per year and reducing coal pollution.

By 2008, around 90% of passenger buses and all of taxis, municipal sanitation vehicles and post communication vehicles in Beijing will use clean fuels. Beijing will also construct a group of gas-fired turbine generating sets with high effect, energy-saving and environmental protection, combining heat, electricity with cold supply and changing the traditional heat supply.

Beijing will use new energies and renewable energies to serve the Olympic Games.
