Beijing Med-Pharm Corporation and Cytokine PharmaSciences, Inc. Reach Agreement on Development and Commercialization of Second-Generation Obstetrics Product in China.

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. & KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. -- Beijing Med-Pharm Corporation (NASDAQ: BJGP) and Cytokine PharmaSciences, Inc. today announced an agreement under which Beijing Med-Pharm will conduct late-stage clinical development, registration, sales, marketing and distribution in the People's Republic of China of Cytokine's Misopess[TM], a second-generation vaginal insert under investigation in several countries for cervical ripening and induction of labor.

Beijing Med-Pharm has distributed and marketed Cytokine's Propess[R] (Cervidil[R]) vaginal insert in China since the fourth quarter of 2005. The Chinese Obstetrics & Gynecology Society (COGS) announced in August 2006 that it intended to list Propess as a recommended product for cervical dilation in new guidelines for induction of labor that will be published in 2007.

Under the agreement, Beijing Med-Pharm will initiate a Chinese registration trial of Misopess, with the expectation that, once Misopess receives U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval, data from this single trial will permit a regulatory application to be filed with the Chinese State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) in late 2008 or early 2009.

The Misopess vaginal insert uses the same vaginal delivery system as Cervidil/Propess but with a different active ingredient, misoprostol. Misoprostol, a synthetic PGE1 analogue, has activity on both the cervix and the uterus and may serve both to ripen the cervix and augment labor. As such, Misopess vaginal insert may function as a one-step labor induction agent, resulting in a shorter time to vaginal delivery and reduced incidence of Cesarean sections. Misopess is currently in Phase III clinical trials in North America and the UK. In addition to Beijing Med-Pharm's license in China, Cytokine has outlicensed Misopess in the United States and Korea and is seeking licensing partners for Europe and other markets.
