As well as incorporating the sort of environmental tactics that have given the architect a well deserved reputation, when considering the urban condition in more detail a number of key strategic decisions were taken to improve integration of internal and external spaces. Simple strategies such as placing public spaces and recreational/play areas on the sunny side of the residential streets help to encourage active urban life, while a variety of private external spaces have also been integrated in response to the theory that 1sqm of high quality recreational space outside the home is more valuable than 10sqm located more remotely.
