WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The research results of a medication study led by Selena Bartlett, Ph.D., of the Gallo Clinic and Research Center may prove valuable in treating cravings associated with alcohol addiction, but neuroreceptor-targeted medication is just one component of effective treatment, says Dr. Barbara Krantz, Chief Medical Officer at the Hanley Center treatment facility in West Palm Beach, Florida.

"We know that addiction to alcohol or drugs is a disease with medical and psychosocial components," said Dr. Krantz. "Addiction is a brain disorder for which counseling and other behavioral therapies are necessary components of addiction treatment. The individual requires a customized treatment plan that may also address dual diagnosis, medication interaction and other factors such as impaired cognition and chronic pain.
