Begum Fauzia Gilani underlines need for using art as tool to promote peace and harmony in the society.

ISLAMABAD, October 27, 2009 (Frontier Star): First Lady Begum Fauzia Gilani on Tuesday stressed the need for using art as a tool to promote peace and harmony in the society. She was speaking as chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of Painting and graphic exhibition held among Pakistan Air Forces (PAF) Fazaia schools and Colleges across the country, at PAF Inter College here. Begum Gilani highlighted the importance of art that can be used to inculcate true human values within the masses, especially young generation. She said the language of art was an easy and effective mode to convey even the tough topics including war against terrorism. Begum Gilani took round of the paintings displayed by the students from class 1 to Matric and appreciated the artistic depiction of important social messages such as respecting traffic rules, saying no to smoking and drugs and saving water resources for next generations. She called for encouraging students to indulge in artistic activities that had been recognized as catalysts to augment learning. Air Vice Marshal Athar Hussain Bukhari, deputy chief of the Air Staff in his welcome address said the painting contest was organized to impart broad-based education to the students and create conducive learning. Earlier on her arrival, the First Lady was received by Begum Farzana Qamar, wife of Chief of the Air Staff who briefed her about the objective of holding art competition. The ceremony was followed by a colourful talent show presented by students from various Fazaia institutions including a musical interlude themed Hope and unity, which was highly appreciated by the audience. The Painting and Graphics competition of Fazaia Schools and Colleges is an annual event and is organized by Directorate of Schools and Colleges, Air Headquarters, Peshawar
