With Beeline Shopper's system, powered by AirClic technology, consumers scan bar codes on product packages or from the QuickScan book and then attach the scanner to their home computer through a cable. Scanned items are then seamlessly added to the online shopping cart, saving valuable time. "We felt that if we gave consumers an easier way to fill their online shopping cart, they would take advantage of it," said Mike Gardner, project manager of Bashas' Groceries On The Go. "We are always aiming to increase basket size and have been looking at all available tools to do that. Beeline Shopper has provided an effective, efficient means to that end." Using the Beeline Shopper system, customers' shopping lists can be used either to instantly fill an online shopping cart, as with Bashas' program, or can be printed for use in the store. Beeline Shopper's system enables users to generate shopping lists that are organized by aisle sequence, making trips to the store more efficient. Additionally, the system provides dietary recommendations based on nutritional preferences determined by the shopper, as well as promotional offers, including recommendations for grocers' private labels. "The results of this market trial show that when you put a scanner in the home with our QuickScan booklet of 1200 common products, impulse buying impulse buying n → compra impulsiva moves to the kitchen and the shopping cart increases," said Leib Lurie, general manager of Beeline Shopper. "We found that 75 percent of the participants used the service three times or more since the trial began. These results are impressive since there were no ongoing promotions encouraging consumers to use the service." Bashas' customers continue to use the Beeline system, and the company is exploring options to expand the service. Said Gardner, "The consumers that tried Beeline Shopper liked it. There is definitely a segment in the marketplace that finds this system very appealing."
