His drugs ban from the French racing authorities does not end until September but the wee man has wasted no time in putting forward his case for a welcome back to the sport he says is his life.

Horses still want to go for me, read the front page headline in the Racing Post as Fallon claimed his appetite was as big as ever. Trouble is, the allegations that quite a few cuddies didn't want to go for the former champion jockey are still hanging over his head.

Silly mid-off? Silly sod off more like it.

I KNOW Lord Oaksey is a throw back to the old school tie brigade but I still raised a glass to him on his 80th birthday.

He has the old buffer act off to a T and despite a riding style that owed more to a Navaho brave who has been on the white man's whisky for too long than a jockey he has cast many pearls of wisdom in his writings.

Long may he flourish.
