DOCTOR Who star David Tennant David Tennant is the stage name of David John McDonald (born 18 April 1971), a Scottish actor from Bathgate, West Lothian, best known for portraying the tenth incarnation of the Doctor in the television series Doctor Who.  has been stopped from attending fan conventions by the BBC BBC

A clause in his contract means he cannot accept any invitations to such events while in the role.

An insider said: "It's just a precaution so that no storyline details are blurted out accidentally.

"David's sorry for the show's followers but understands the reason."

The rule also applies to his new companion, ex-Crossroads favourite Freema Agyeman Freema Agyeman (born 1979 in Finsbury Park, London[1] ) is an English actress whose first notable appearance was in the ITV soap opera Crossroads. She is best known for playing medical student Martha Jones, companion of the Tenth Doctor in the BBC science , 27, who replaces Billie Piper in the third series next year.

The move breaks with tradition as former Time Lords Tom Baker and Colin Baker were encouraged to meet fans in the UK and US to drum up publicity.

But the Doctor Who Appreciation Society is not too miffed that 35-year-old Tennant, who has already signed up for another series, and Freema will only be free to go to conventions when they leave.

A spokesman said: "It's quite good that storylines are being kept secret so we can have surprises."
