Bed fire caused by man's cigarette.


A MAN sparked a blaze at a residential home after smoking while in bed.

The 42-year-old narrowly escaped injury after fire crews provided him with fire retardant fire retardant Public health A chemical used to resist combustion, which may contain polybrominated biphenyls and antimony oxide  bedding only the day before.

The incident happened at the property in Cae Bold, Caernarfon, just after 11am on Thursday.

A North Wales Fire and Rescue Service The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service (Welsh: Gwasanaeth Tân ac Achub Gogledd Cymru) is the fire and rescue service covering the predominantly rural principal areas of Anglesey, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd and Wrexham in  spokeswoman said: "The man avoided burns to his chest after he had been smoking in bed.

"The night before, crews fitted a smoke alarm and provide fire retardant bedding following concerns that the residents - the man and a 44 year old woman - may be vulnerable to fire."

Caernarfon watch manager, Richard Evans said: It's highly likely that the fire retardant bedding prevented more serious injuries. The smoke alarm, alerting a neighbour who called for assistance.

It''s vital that vulnerable people such as these are identified in our communities so that we can take preventative measures against fire before incidents occur.

Smoke alarms give an early warning of a fire and there is no excuse for anyone in North Wales North Wales (known in some archaic texts as Northgalis) is the northernmost unofficial region of Wales, bordered to the south by Mid Wales and to the east by England.  not to have one as the Fire and Rescue Service is offering a free home fire safety check for everyone and will install smoke alarms where necessary."
