Becoming an American Idol.


Now in its fifth season, American Idol American Idol is an annual American televised singing competition, which began its first season on June 11, 2002. Part of the Idol franchise, it originated from the British reality program Pop Idol.  is more popular than ever. Each week, the Fox reality show draws between 30 and 35 million viewers.

Every viewer has strong opinions, so who gets voted off the show can sometimes come as a shock. For instance, many people were stunned when Ruben Studdard Christopher Ruben Studdard (born September 12, 1978) is an American pop/R&B/gospel singer who rose to fame as winner of the second season of the American Idol television program.  beat out Clay Aiken Clay Aiken (born Clayton Holmes Grissom on November 30, 1978) is an American pop singer who began his rise to fame on the second season of the television program American Idol in 2003.  in 2003.

"American Idol doesn't add up to be just a vocal competition," says host Ryan Seacrest. "It's also a personality contest." Some people think that is what kept contestant Kevin Covais, a high school junior from Levittown, New York Levittown, a suburb of New York City, is a hamlet and unincorporated political subdivision of New York State located on Long Island in Nassau County, New York.
