He commended other ASIS volunteer leaders for their contributions to the Society during his term of office. He also extended thanks to ASIS Executive Director Michael Stack.

Mallon also reported on the events of the previous year. In conjunction with ASIS headquarters, Mallon initiated the first phase of a liaison between industry professionals and government representatives. Mallon met with elected officials in both houses of Congress to speak about how ASIS can help fight high crime rates around the country. "I have had the pleasure to communicate with U.S. elected officials and their staffs, both in joint sessions and in one-on-one conversations, to explain what the American Society for Industrial Security is and to describe some of the resources we have available to fight against crime," said Mallon.

During the year, ASIS worked on developing professional liaisons with law enforcement agencies A law enforcement agency (LEA) is a term used to describe any agency which enforces the law. Chairman of the Board Kenneth E. Joseph, PhD, then gave the financial report. During 1994, the Society generated $9.3 million in total revenue and $48,000 in revenue over expenditure. Joseph attributed this positive bottom line to tight controls on expenses and increased attendance at ASIS education programs, seminars, and workshops. In conclusion, Joseph summarized, "ASIS is fiscally sound and your Board of Directors and headquarters staff are charged with ascertaining that the financial welfare of ASIS is permanently maintained. We have been successful in meeting that challenge."

After Mallon inducted Becker as the new ASIS president, Becker spoke about his goals for the upcoming year and the future of the Society. ASIS, its members and their corporations, said Becker, have grown and evolved over the years. Security is no longer an isolated concern, he continued, but one that involves many members of the corporate environment, all of whom are concerned about security. "With the addition of an Associate Member category of membership, ASIS has made a place at the table for all men and women with an interest in the protection of assets," said Becker.

Becker emphasized the continuing need for evaluation and refinement of educational programs. He also addressed ways to expand the Society's visibility and influence to better represent the interests of the members.

The meeting was adjourned by incoming President Becker.
