Bechtel, Bentley and Jacobus Announce Trilateral Strategic Alliance; Bechtel to Standardize on MicroStation, Jacobus to Acquire Bechtel 3DM Plant Design Products.

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 1995--A/E/C SYSTEMS '95-- Bechtel Corporation, Bentley Systems Bentley Systems, Incorporated, provides software for the "Design, construction and operation of the world's infrastructure". The company’s software serves the building, plant, civil, and geospatial vertical markets in the areas of architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) , Inc., and Jacobus Technology, Inc., announced today that they have reached a groundbreaking three-way strategic agreement. It makes commercially available -- and secures a strong future for -- the MicroStation-based plant design system of one of the world's largest engineering and construction firms.

Specifically, Jacobus will acquire the rights to Bechtel's internally developed 3DM(TM) and WalkThru(TM) plant design products. Bechtel will receive rights to future Jacobus systems and products incorporating 3DM technology. MicroStation(R) from Bentley has been chosen as the CAD environment for the Jacobus system and will continue to be a component of Bechtel's internal automation strategy. Bentley and its channels will also distribute the Jacobus product.

The 3DM and WalkThru products have been used on hundreds of Bechtel projects in the design, construction, and operation of plants of all sizes. 3DM is based on MicroStation and includes a full suite of applications for piping, structural steel, mechanical equipment, HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) In the home or small office with a handful of computers, HVAC is more for human comfort than the machines. In large datacenters, a humidity-free room with a steady, cool temperature is essential for the trouble-free  ductwork duct·work

Bechtel senior vice president John Duty, comments, "Throughout the world, 3DM has been our plant design workhorse work·horse

. We developed 3DM because no commercially developed system matched our high-end requirements with scalable, affordable solutions." On the new plans, Duty adds, "For the past year, we have been seeking the right partnership to properly leverage our 3DM investment. Jacobus and Bentley provide a winning combination of technological vision, marketing savvy, and financial resources. They will focus on advancing these products and we will focus on continuing to lead our market in automation services using 3DM and follow-on products."

Recruited from Rosebud/Dandenong U18 in Victoria, he was placed on the Port Adelaide Football Club's rookie list but was upgraded to the senior list during 2006.
, notes, "We believe that this agreement marks a milestone in the history of the plant design market. Three leaders have come together to create a high-end MicroStation-based plant design solution, perhaps the strongest in the market. Our plans include worldwide distribution and aggressive pricing." He concludes, "The world and cost of plant design, operation, and maintenance are changed forever."

Buddy Cleveland, Jacobus president, says, "3DM is arguably ar·gu·a·ble

the industry's most proven plant design system and set of applications. Its scalability, open architecture, and consistent data model across all disciplines were determining factors in our decision." On future product plans, Cleveland adds, "We will offer an independent plant design environment with integrated applications that can also interoperate See interoperable.  with other applications."

Bechtel will continue to use MicroStation-based 3DM as a component of its CAD environment. The company's automation plans call for the incorporation of the most advanced automation systems into its project management and plant design work. Bechtel, in exchange for the exclusive rights to 3DM, will receive all 3DM successor products and technologies from Jacobus. The agreement also calls for volume purchases of MicroStation by Bechtel, with a value of up to $2.0M over the next three years.

Jacobus, known for pioneering object technology in plant design, will incorporate 3DM into the foundation of an interoperable, scalable plant design environment and range of applications. The company will also integrate its object-oriented JSpace(TM) technology into these products. Bentley, an investor in Jacobus, will begin marketing and selling the new product line early this summer.

The agreement also includes the Bechtel WalkThru animation product. This 3D real-time system considers all graphical and relevant non-graphical information in animating an·i·mate
