Because of Re-Engineering, Vendors Must Do More.

CONCORD, N.H.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 15, 1999--

Business-to-business selling today no longer means simply delivering the goods, says Brad Hosmer, President of The Beta Consulting Group, Concord NH. Because of re-engineering, today's products and services must often be sold with value-added services A value-added service (VAS) is a telecommunications industry term for non-core services or, in short, all services beyond standard voice calls and fax transmissions.  which replace functions previously handled by the buying company. As a result, vendors worldwide are re-evaluating age-old markets and adding new features.

"Vendors today have to step up and do more," Hosmer, a certified management consultant Certified Management Consultant (CMC) is an international professional certification for Management consulting professionals, awarded by institutes in 44 countries (as of December 2006). , explains. "It's not just matter of merely quoting price and delivery, as it used to be: Vendors must now be ready to supply everything a customer needs."

Hosmer cites the example of shipping companies that have always only had to offer delivery of customer items from point to point. Now that so many businesses have had mailing departments eliminated, no one is left to package items to be shipped. "The shipper SHIPPER. "Corporate re-structuring's impact on vendor relationships can't be ignored," he says. "It's adversely affected many companies, in small and large ways, driving up costs, delaying projects, upsetting consumers." He adds that customer companies must also begin actively managing their vendor relationships as a result of this dilemma.

"Through innovation, many companies on both sides are developing new approaches," he concludes. "In the end it's a good thing because vendors end up better serving their customers and customers forge forge
