Beauvais named to Board of Governors of the Flight Safety Foundation.

Western Pacific Airlines, or WestPac, took up service on April 28, 1995 using eight Boeing 737-300 jets.
, has been appointed to the Board of Governors of the Flight Safety Foundation.

The Flight Safety Foundation is an internal membership organization dedicated to improving flight safety. Since its founding in 1945, the Foundation has acted as a non-profit, independent clearinghouse to disseminate safety information, identify threats to safety and recommend practical solutions. Today, the Foundation provides leadership to more than 600 member organizations in 75 countries.

Beauvais' vision of a new, innovative, low-fare airline resulted in the founding of Colorado Springs-based Western Pacific in 1994. From its streamlined ticketless reservation system, to its "air logo" program (under which the airline sells the exterior of its planes for advertising purposes: one plane sports giant figures from the FOX-TV series "The Simpsons"), Western Pacific is transforming the air travel industry.

It is the largest city in Nevada and the center of one of the fastest-growing urban areas in the United States. , Phoenix, Kansas City, Oklahoma City, San Francisco, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Seattle and will begin serving Wichita, San Diego, Indianapolis and Houston on Aug. 1. Fares are substantially lower than other carriers. As the company acquires more aircraft, it intends to expand service to Omaha; Orange County, Calif.; New York New York, state, United States

Prior to creating Western Pacific, Beauvais founded America West Airlines America West Airlines was one of the United States' ten major airlines. The airline was based in Tempe, Arizona, and is now a part of US Airways Group.

At the time of its integration into US Airways, the airline maintained two hubs, one at Phoenix Sky Harbor International
, and served as chairman and chief executive officer from 1981 to 1992. From 1970 to 1981, he headed his own transportation consulting firm, providing analysis and research for major U.S. cities and airlines. He began his aviation career in 1960 with Frontier Airlines, and in 1963 joined Bonanza Airlines. A native of Pueblo, Colo., Beauvais is a graduate of Regis College in Denver.

His three-year appointment to the Flight Safety Foundation Board of Governors was announced along with that of Carl W. Vogt, the former chairman of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB NTSB

), and John K. Lauber, a retiring member of the NTSB. The three will begin their terms immediately.
