Beauty is skin deep; Bollywood Vue TASHAN (15) VERDICT: **.

Byline: By Manish Gajjar

Directors: Vijay Krishna Acharya For the pen name of D. Murdock, see .

In the Hindu religion, an acharya (आचार्य) is a Divine personality

Starring: Anil Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor, Sanjay Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Yashpal Sharma

The plot: Jimmy Cliff (Saif), a call-centre employee is forced to become an English tutor to gangster Bhaiyyaji (Anil), who dreams of speaking like George Bush.

His personal secretary, Pooja Pooja can mean:
  • Pooja, a popular name
  • In Hinduism, a pooja is a form of worship, that relates to the dedication and belief.
  • Pooja, an artist and designer in bangalore
  • Pooja, an actress.
  • Pooja, as a person.
(Kareena) uses Jimmy to swindle large sums of Bhaiyyaji's money.

Bhaiyyaji now wants both of them dead. So on to the scene enters Bachchan Pandey (Akshay), a 'desi' goon whose mission is to trace the two thieves and recover the loot hidden in different parts of India.

And so begins a road trip on the wild side from exotic Rajasthan to the Holy city of Haridwar ensues.

The verdict: As the name suggests, debut director Acharya's Tashan is a stylishly-made movie full of gloss and attitude. Unfortunately, the exotic Rajasthani locales, the glamorous costumes and peppy song sequences do not make up for a weak script which is neither gripping nor moving.

Over the top action sequences further dilute the on-screen drama.

But one thing's for sure - Tashan scores very highly on its cast selection.

Wafer-thin Kareena Kapoor (pictured) as Pooja looks every inch a bewitching be·witch

goddess in her skimpy attire as she seduces the men to achieve her goal.

Akshay Kumar's straight-faced, no-nonsense character Bachchan leaves you in splits, especially when confessing his love to Pooja.

And Anil Kapoor as Bhaiyyaji in is a sheer delight to watch in his outrageous outfits. If style and gloss is what you are after then Tashan is definitely your cup of tea!
