Summary: As beauty queens from around the world gather in the Bahamas for this year's Miss Universe pageant, we check out the competitions that rate beauty in our region.

Miss Lebanon Miss Lebanon - Lebanon's Official National Beauty Pageant (Arabic: انتخابات ملكة جمال لبنان ) is a beauty contest in Lebanon.  <p>According to the official Miss Lebanon committee, it has been conducting pageants for the last 30 years. The winner receives more than $500,000 and represents the country in both the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants. The title of Miss Egypt may refer to an Egyptian woman who competes in any of the Big Four pageants. The Pantene Miss Egypt pageant sends its winner to Miss Universe. It is inconsistent how the other pageants get their Egyptian contestants.  <p>The only other country in the region that has a beauty contest is Egypt. Elham Wagdi, a 25-year-old from Cairo, was crowned Miss Egypt Universe this year. Wagdi - a dancer, painter, and aerobics instructor - was also the first runner-up at the Miss Egypt 2005 contest.

The pageant is sponsored by Procter & Gamble's hair care brand Pantene, and the event is broadcast by Melody Hits.

Camel beauty contest, Abu Dhabi <p>This contest is held as part of the Mazayin Dhafra festival, and attracts camels from countries across the region including Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The Abu Dhabi event is one of the richest and biggest of its kind, with more than $9 million and 100 cars given away as prizes.

The contest is open to anyone owning a disease-free animal.

The finalists among the locally bred sheep, called Nejdi sheep, were auctioned off to the highest bidder HIGHEST BIDDER, contracts. He who, at an auction, offers the greatest price for the property sold.
     2. The highest bidder is entitled to have the article sold at his bid, provided there has been no unfairness on his part.
