Beating the zone defense by the rules.Conventional wisdom holds that the most effective way to attack a zone defense is with ball movement and player movement. The challenge is to do both within the same offense. At Rampart, we use ball movement to initiate the player movement and generate the consequent con·se·quent adj. 1. a. Following as a natural effect, result, or conclusion: tried to prevent an oil spill and the consequent damage to wildlife. b. team dynamics
Each time the ball is moved within the offense, we expect all five players to adjust their positions to the specific movement. THE RULES ARE AS FOLLOWS: Post 5: Face the ball at all times and stay square on the border of the scoring area (lane). Be in a horizontal line (Descriptive Geometry & Drawing) a constructive line, either drawn or imagined, which passes through the point of sight, and is the chief line in the projection upon which all verticals are fixed, and upon which all vanishing points are found. See also: Horizontal with the ball whenever possible. Forward 4: Run the baseline The horizontal line to which the bottoms of lowercase characters (without descenders) are aligned. See typeface. baseline - released version , maintaining a vertical line with the ball whenever possible. Hold any strong-side low-post position for a two-count. Wings 2 and 3: Get open for an entry pass from the wing. After making an attacking pass, dive and go to the opposite wing. After making a retreat pass, V-cut and replace. Replace the point whenever vacant, cut to the elbow, then spot up. Point 1: Replace wings whenever they become cutters. Return to the point whenever the ball is reversed. Flash-cut A flash-cut is when a system is changed immediately, with no phase-in period. Some telephone area codes were split immediately, rather than being phased in with a permissive dialing period. An example is telephone area code 213, which was split into 213 and 714 all at once. to the elbow when filling a perimeter The boundary of a system or network, which defines the inside and outside. It is typically determined by firewalls and addresses. See DMZ. vacancy VACANCY. A place which is empty. The term is principally applied to cases where an office is not filled. 2. By the constitution of the United States, the president has the power to fill up vacancies that may happen during the recess of the senate. . The rules clearly define the offensive roles and give the point guard a two-way entry into the offense. Whenever the point makes the entry pass to the wing, as shown in Diag. 1, post 5 must immediately square up horizontally to the ball. Forward 4 must hold in the strong low post for two counts, looking for Looking for In the context of general equities, this describing a buy interest in which a dealer is asked to offer stock, often involving a capital commitment. Wing 3 must then make the attacking pass to forward 4, as shown in Diag. 2, then dive-cut to the basket and on through the scoring area. Post 5 must move to the low block to maintain a horizontal relationship with the ball. Point 1 must replace wing 3, while opposite wing 2 flash-cuts to the elbow prior to replacing the point. The offense continues as shown in Diag. 3, with the ball being reversed from 4 to 1 to 2. Post 5 slides high to face the ball and 4 slides to the low post to assume a vertical relationship with the ball. Diag. 4: Wing 2 finishes the reversal by swinging the ball to wing 3, as forward 4 posts up for a two-count and post 5 moves to face the ball. Forward 4 then slides into a vertical relationship with the ball, wing 2 dive-cuts to the hoop and on through the scoring area, while point 1 moves to replace cutter cutter, small, one-masted sailing vessel, with a rig similar to that of a sloop except that it usually has a sliding bowsprit and a topmast. From 1800 to 1830 cutters were in service between England and France. 2. Diag. 5: Wing 3 now makes the attacking pass to forward 4 and then dive-cuts as shown. Post 5 moves to the low block in a horizontal relationship with 4, while point 1 flash-cuts to the elbow and replaces the cutter (3). Diag. 6: Forward 4 passes out to 1, who dribbles to the point, as 2 moves over to replace him, 4 moves to the strong low post, while low-post 5 moves up to the high post in the key. All of this movement establishes the original 1-3-1 alignment Alignment is the adjustment of an object in relation with other objects, or a static orientation of some object or set of objects in relation to others.
The offensive rules stay in force on skip passes and dribble movements. The only time they will change is on a post-entry pass, as shown in Diag. 7. The 1-to-5 high-post entry pass will cause forward 4 to slide into the near block and opposite wing 2 to cut for the basket. Strong-side wing 3 will spot up on the three-point arc and point-guard 1 will hold outside to provide pressure release and transition defense. On a 3-to-4 low-post entry pass (Diag. 8), post 5 will curl-cut to the dotted line and seal the nearest defender, and opposite-wing 2 will cut to the basket. Strong-side wing 3 and point 1 will continue to have their regular responsibilities. Our offense can be adapted to anything the defense throws against us. If, as shown in Diag. 9, we have to go into a two-guard set, we will continue to execute as we did in our one-guard set. The ball-handler (1) will make the entry pass to the wing (3) while 5 moves level with the ball and 4 dives Dives (dī`vēz) [Lat.,=rich], traditional name of the unnamed rich man of the parable in the Gospel of St. Luke. If the continuity is initiated with a pass to forward 4 (Diag. 10), it will be treated the same as a baseline attack pass. The guard (2) will dive while 5 comes level with the ball, and 1 moves to the high post. Regardless of the player alignment, the offensive rules remain the same. This kind of flexibility enables us to match up with any zone defense and to make an easy entry into the continuity after transition opportunities and out-of-bounds out-of-bounds adv.
