Napoleonic Wars

(1799–1815) Series of wars that ranged France against shifting alliances of European powers.
(1804-1815), here follows Hornblower on a secret mission for the British Admiralty. Hornblower must deliver arms to rebels in Nicaragua, capture or sink the 50-gun Spanish ship, the Natividad, and then disrupt the shipping lanes of France and her allies. The rebel leader turns out to be an uncooperative madman and the first battle with the Natividad must be broken off due to a severe storm.

Howard's British accent matches the text perfectly. He easily moves from gentleman to common seaman and even to distressed lady. His even-toned descriptions of the ship being tossed about in a gale and locked in deadly combat will hold the attention of any listener. This reading may entice reluctant readers to look for other Hornblower stories in print form. For fans of action/adventure tales, naval history, and those with a romantic bent. Prof. John E. Boyd, Jenkintown, PA
