FARMERS can pick up tips on how to beat the credit crunch.

Accountants, property experts, lawyers, regional development officials and bank representatives will be offering advice on how rural businesses can beat the recession.

Keith Proudfoot, of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, said: "It can be argued that farming has actually been in recession for the past 10 years.

"Many farmers are struggling to stay afloat and would be suffering significant losses without the cash they receive from the Single Farm Payment scheme."

The event, organised by the Northern Society of Chartered Accountants, will be held at Close House Hotel, Heddon-on-the- Wall, on April 28.
