The Beastie Boys have posted a video on their website in which they announced that Adam Yauch has a cancerous tumor in his salivary gland.

"About two months ago I started feeling a little lump in my throat," Yauch, who appeared alongside Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz, said on YouTube.

"I started to think I should talk to my doctor... and he sent me to a specialist, and they did tests, and I actually have a form of cancer."

The 43-year-old from Brooklyn is not only part of the pioneering rap group, but has also emerged as a film producer, working on their music videos and their DVDs.

The Beastie Boys are cancelling their latest tour dates in America and postponing the release of the album "Hot Sauce Committee Part 1".
